Dr George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector General of Police, has reaffirmed that the police and other security services are prepared to collaborate with the Electoral Commission (EC) and all other relevant parties to hold peaceful elections in December of this year.
Before the polls, he said, the EC will cooperate with the police to address all of their security concerns.
“We’re here to listen to you and learn about any security-related worries you may have before the elections, and we’re ready to address them all.
“The national election security task force is already collaborating with all pertinent parties, and we will keep doing more to guarantee that our nation maintains its peace before, during, and following the elections. In a meeting with the Election Management Body (EMB) at the EC head office on Thursday, the IGP provided the assurance, saying, “So we are here to assure you that we will address all your security concerns ahead of the polls.”
The chair of the EC, Madam Jean Mensa, praised the IGP and the Police leadership for their proactive approach to the impending elections.
She expressed confidence that the way the police leadership is handling the election will contribute to increased trust between all parties involved.
The IGP has received appreciation from the Center for Democratic Development for how he has handled by-elections in the nation since taking office.
Unlike Chereponi, Asankrakwa, and other places, the IGP formed the Election Security Task Force and performed admirably in each of our by-elections. There haven’t been any significant problems with any of the by-elections this century.
“So I think the experiments by the Election Security Task Force will carry us through the main elections,” The Programs Manager for CDD-Ghana Mr. Paul Aborampah Mensah told Accra-based Starr FM.
