Patients from different regions are being left stranded as a result of the ongoing doctor’s strike at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), which is having a substantial impact on healthcare services.
Over 20 doctors were served notices to vacate their residences, which led to mounting frustration. As a result, a strike was initiated. Patients who visited the facility on Wednesday morning were left unattended. Patients from regions beyond Ashanti have expressed their distress over the inconvenience caused by the strike.
“I have been given another appointment for the 3rd of next month since the person I was supposed to meet did not show up today. I also heard this morning that they are evacuating the place where they usually stay.
I was supposed to go to work this morning, but I couldn’t because I had an accident on Saturday night. I had to undergo surgery and was referred to a plastic surgeon. I came to this place on Monday and booked an appointment for today. However, when I came here today, the person I was supposed to see did not show up.”
In response to the ongoing strike, a meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday afternoon between the hospital management, the striking doctors, officials of the Lands Commission, and the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council.
