Koforidua, the capital of Eastern Region Ghana, is gearing up for the 67th Independence Day anniversary celebration with great fervour and enthusiasm. In preparation for the event, the city will be adorned with approximately 4,000 Ghanaian flags to augment its aesthetic appeal and instil a strong sense of national pride.
The Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong, made this announcement during a media engagement, stressing the importance of the flags in generating excitement for the celebration. He also urged the sanitation committee to ensure that the city maintains its cleanliness and aesthetics to uphold the standards for the event.
Furthermore, the communications committee is preparing giant billboards to disseminate information about the celebration, and the media is being called upon to lend their support to make the event a grand success.
The theme for this year’s celebration is “Our Democracy, Our Pride,” which aims to promote democratic values and peace, especially in the context of the upcoming 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
The celebration will feature Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara as the Special Guest of Honour. 21 contingents of security agencies, 11 school representatives, and various traditional groups are set to participate in the parade.
The event will also include a commemoration of the Christianborg shooting incident, investment forums, flag-hoisting ceremonies, and cultural displays. In addition, there will be health walks, music concerts, and religious thanksgiving services, culminating in fireworks and sporting events.
Overall, the celebration aims to unify Ghanaians in their celebration of the country’s journey towards freedom and prosperity.
