Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s assertion that the Akufo-Addo administration successfully handled the country’s dumsor power crisis has been denied by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The NDC rejected Dr Bawumia’s claim, telling Ghanaians it is untrue and should be disregarded.
In his speech on Wednesday, February 7, Dr. Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate, praised the accomplishments of the current administration, which he claimed included the resolution of dumsor.
He credited a deliberate and decisive government program for this success.
“We started with a clear, decisive and deliberate program to, among other things, stabilise the economy, fix dumsor, fix the NHIS, fix the roads, clear the arrears, make education free and accessible, significantly enhance social protection for the vulnerable in society, industrialize our economy, tackle youth unemployment and empower farmers,” he said.
The NDC responded to Dr Bawumia’s claims with a press release, stating that the power crisis was addressed under former president John Mahama’s administration—a man they celebrated as a nation builder.
“The visionary and experienced Nation Builder, President Mahama accepted responsibility for the problem and promised to fix it. Indeed, by 2016 he had comprehensively fixed DUMSOR and ended load shedding.”
