The Kumasi Traditional Council has cleared Bernard Antwi Boasiako, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), of allegations of making derogatory statements against the Asantehene during the NPP parliamentary vetting process.
Chairman Wontumi, as he is commonly known, appeared before the council with party executives and government officials, including Majority Leader Osei-Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, National Chairman Stephen Ntim, and General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua, to defend himself against the allegations levelled against him by the Kokosuhene, Nana Kwaku Duah.
Although Nana Kwaku Duah defended his allegations, the Kumasi Traditional Council dismissed them as false and malicious and advised both parties to settle their differences without involving the Asantehene.
Bantamhene, Baffour Owusu Amankwatia VI, who delivered the judgment, urged chiefs to avoid engaging in political activities during the 2024 general elections campaign period.
The Kumasi Traditional Council called for calm as it prepares to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Asantehene.
