Concerned Citizens of Ghana, has threatened to picket at the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) on January 15, 2024, in protest of the Commissioner-General, Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, for his continued tenure in office.
According to the group, the GRA boss must immediately proceed with his retirement because he is past the legal age limit for public officers to hold office.
The group’s spokesperson, Charles Akowuah, accused Ms. Julie Essiam, the Commissioner-General and Commissioner in charge of the Ghana Revenue Authority’s Support Services Division, of exceeding the 60-year term for civil servants stipulated by the constitution.
“The results of our background checks indicate that Rev. Ammishaddai and Ms Julie Essiam have elected to remain in office past the age of 60, even though their contracts were extended until 2021. This raises concerns about the GRA’s compliance with its established retirement policies.”
“After January 15, 2024, we anticipate that 1,500 young men and women will hold the position of GRA.”
