Mobile Money (MoMo) agents throughout Ghana will implement a temporary measure that limits cash withdrawals to GH¢1,000 per transaction starting on Friday, December 1.
Four MoMo Associations—the Northern MoMo Agents Association of Ghana (NOMAAG), the Mobile Money Advocacy Group (MOMAG), the Mobile Money Agents Association Ghana (MMAAG), and the ABAG—released a joint statement outlining this decision.
The associations made it clear that the purpose of this interim measure is to ensure that MoMo agents receive just compensation for the services they render.
They made it clear that the purpose of this action is to raise awareness of the customers’ ongoing concerns regarding inadequate payment for their services, not to cause inconvenience to them.
Using this brief restriction, the associations hope to highlight how important it is to have a long-term business plan that pays Mobile Money agents fairly.
“The Associations declared, “We will continue to actively engage with service providers to address the concerns raised by the commission review during this period.” “We will, unfortunately, have to implement additional action plans if, within the one month, there is no favourable adjustment.”
The Associations have sent out a call to all parties involved, including clients, asking for their assistance in achieving just compensation for MoMo agents.
They emphasized that the establishment of a system that is just and equitable for all parties involved is necessary for the continued existence of Mobile Money (MoMo) services in Ghana.
They continued, “We implore you to stand with us in generating support for just compensation to Mobile Money Agents.”
