President Akufo-Addo failed to sign the Criminal Offenses Amendment Bill, 2022, which aimed to outlaw witchcraft in the nation, according to Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin.
During the most recent meeting, the bill sponsored by Francis Xavier Sosu, the MP for Madina, was passed. However, no consent has been received after several months.
In his speech to the House, the Speaker disclosed that he had not heard from the Jubilee House about the letter he had written with regard to the development.
As a result, Alban Bagbin gave the order to remove the bill right away, even though it had reappeared on the order paper and was once again put through the consideration stage.
Haruna Iddrisu, the MP for Tamale South, asserted that President Akufo-Addo had violated Article 106 of the constitution by refusing to sign the bill.
Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the majority leader, stated that the president has several concerns about the passed bill and has been requesting a meeting with the Speaker to discuss the situation. The President has not declined to give his consent, the Suame MP empathized.
Speaker Bagbin urged the President to voice his concerns about the bill in accordance with the constitution rather than by trying to circumvent it.
