During the presentation of the government’s 2024 budget, Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta praised the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo-led government for its transparency and accountability.
He attributed this achievement to the implementation of the Public Financial Management Act, 2016, Act 921, which was enacted to regulate the financial management of the public sector within a macroeconomic and fiscal framework.
The law specifies rigorous accounting, auditing, and reporting requirements for public funds.
Mr. Ofori-Atta, the first Finance Minister to oversee the implementation of this law, confidently stated that the current government has been the most transparent and accountable in Ghana’s history.
Over the past seven years, he has presented 55 statutory reports to the House to comply with the law’s provisions. These reports include the Annual Report on the Petroleum Funds and the Report on the Utilization of the African Union Levies.
