Yilo Krobo has once again been the target of a terrifying armed robbery attack by a notorious gang that has been terrorizing local businesses.
The heist from last night featured four attackers, one of them was a woman.
Situated around 200 meters from the SP GAS filling station, where a similar robbery occurred in the same terrible modus operandi on October 11, 2023 at about 7:30pm, the crooks targeted the Gaso gasoline filling station and a mobile money vendor in the municipality’s core.
According to eyewitnesses, the four armed robbers, with remarkable swiftness, executed their deadly mission in less than 8 minutes amid firing of sporadic warning shots.
Armed with pump-action guns, they managed to make off with an undisclosed sum of money from Gaso Filling station, in addition to a substantial amount of Twenty Eight Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHc 28,000) from the mobile money vendor.
As they attempted to escape, the robbers fired a shot that injured a pump attendant employed at Gaso Filling station, as well as two other individuals they encountered on their way.
Two of the injured victims were hospitalized at Yolo Krobo Municipal Hospital while one other victim was treated and discharged.
The incident highlighted a significant gap in security measures, as there were no CCTV cameras installed at the filling station to provide essential and real time information to aid police investigation.
Meanwhile, the local police in Yilo Krobo lacked proper operational and patrol vehicles that would enhance their patrol capabilities on the main road and within the township.
This situation adds further challenges to their efforts to address criminal activities in the area.
