The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Yeboah-Dame, has called on the public to disregard the baseless and unmeritorious accusations made by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) against him.
The NDC recently urged Ghanaians to reject Godfred Dame’s legal opinion on the report authored by Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, former Chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Committee against Illegal Mining (IMCIM).
According to Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the party, the Attorney General’s advice, which referred to portions of the report as lacking evidence, is nothing but a cover-up and an attempt to whitewash the damning report.
The opposition party went further to describe his legal advice as “a poor attempt to cover-up”.
Mr. Yeboah-Dame has denied the accusations made against him in a statement. He stated that he cannot advise for the prosecution of individuals if there is a lack of evidence. He emphasized his commitment to upholding the rule of law and prosecuting all criminals, regardless of their political affiliation.
In his statement on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, Mr. Yeboah-Dame refuted the NDC’s accusations and referred to them as a desperate attempt to conceal their failures in combating the galamsey menace while they were in power.
He also stated that the NDC’s press conference was lacking in evidence to support their allegations against him and that he was being targeted for decisions taken in the regular course of his functions as Attorney-General.
Mr. Yeboah-Dame urged the public to disregard the NDC’s false claims and emphasized that it is unjust to prosecute people for crimes without evidence. He also explained that the Office of Attorney-General did not prosecute Prof Frimpong-Boateng or his son, Jojo Frimpong-Boateng, despite allegations made against them for their involvement in Galamsey by the Adansiman Progressive Association.
