Daniel Bugri Naabu, the former Northern Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party, has expressed a sense of vindication after Superintendent Eric Gyebi and Superintendent George Asare confirmed the authenticity of a leaked tape that captured voices of some officers plotting the removal of the Inspector General of Police.
“This comes after both police officers, who had earlier denied the allegations during a public hearing, conceded to the full details of their engagement with the politician as captured on the tape.
Bugri Naabu stated to the media after the Tuesday hearing, “During their public testimony, they accused me of lying, but now before the committee, they have both admitted their voices on the tape, including Gyebi.”
“As a leader, honesty is one of my core values. Recently, while in my office, some individuals approached me and shared information that I believed was crucial for our state’s national security. In order to ensure that the NPP government was aware of what was happening, I recorded the conversation and gave the tape to the President.
It is important to note that my actions were not those of a liar. The individuals involved in the conversation have admitted that it was their voices on the tape. If they attempt to deny anything now, we are prepared to play the recording for all Ghanaians to hear.
The committee that was supposed to sit in camera until Saturday has suspended its sitting indefinitely. The chairman of the committee has stated that they will listen to the audio again, assess other evidence presented, and begin writing their report.
