According to Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minority Leader of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), the protestors are demanding to meet with Bank of Ghana (BoG) Governor, Dr. Ernest Yedu Addison, and hand him their petition.
Their protest will continue until their demand is met. The Speaker expressed disappointment towards Governor Addison for not meeting with the protestors despite having the time to do so. Instead, the Governor chose to meet with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The Speaker then handed over the petition to a man who claimed to be the head of security at the bank. The Speaker was frustrated with the situation. Additionally, transitional words could be used to emphasize his feelings.
Apart from asking for the resignation of the BoG leadership, the protestors also demanded respect from Governor Addison. Dr. Ato Forson stated that sending security officers to receive their petition was disrespectful.
They announced that they would seek a different time to present the petition instead of handing it over to the security officers. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the NDC’s general secretary, criticized the Governor for prioritizing the IMF over Ghanaians, whose taxes pay his salary.
ech, the Minority Leader announced that they would only submit their petition to Governor Ernest Addison and no one else. They plan to stay at the Central Bank until he receives it.
