President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has sent his sincere sympathies to former President John Agyekum Kufuor, his children, and grandchildren over the demise of Theresa Kufuor nee Mensah.
After a protracted illness, Mrs. Kufuor passed away on October 1st.
President Akufo-Addo lamented the news in a tribute he gave on Monday, October 2.
“The fact that Almighty God will return for each and every one of us at the right time, he said, “reminds me keenly of human mortality.”
The late JH Mensah, as well as her nephew Ambassador DK Osei, were among the members of her family that President Akufo-Addo said he knew well.
He expressed gratitude for her “invaluable” and “constant” support in the form of prayers, words of wisdom, and encouragement for former President Kufuor, who guided the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into power in 2001.
“She was a composed, articulate, polyglot First Lady who spoke Ewe fluently and gave a lot of dignity to the duties.
“I was fortunate to get to know her as well. I knew several members of her family, including her famous brother.
“Her graciousness, warmth, and generosity were extraordinary. She endured life’s ups and downs with remarkable calmness and unwavering faith in the might of Almighty God.
President Akufo-Addo wished Rebecca a “peaceful place of abode in the bosom of the Almighty, as she deserves, until the Last Day of the Resurrection when we shall all meet again” on behalf of his wife and the people of Ghana.
