Several stores at CMB, behind Kantamanto in Accra, were completely destroyed by fire, destroying commodities worth millions of Ghana cedis.
It is presently unknown what caused the incident, which broke out at 5:00 am on Sunday. The fire had already spread to multiple facilities when the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) firefighters arrived, despite their prompt response to the scene.
The fire’s scene had a number of combustible items, according to ADO1 Alex Nartey, a GNFS Public Relations Officer.
When the fire stopped, several of the shops were totally destroyed. Several of the market’s vendors expressed their annoyance and dissatisfaction over the situation. A lot of them claimed to have lost everything.
The GNFS is asking merchants to exercise caution when using electrical devices and to stay away from keeping combustible goods in their stores.
At the CMB market in recent years, there have been two significant fire incidents. A fire in the market in 2020 destroyed more than 200 shops.
