George Owu, who played for Ghana in the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), is optimistic that the Black Stars of Ghana will triumph at the upcoming AFCON, which will be held in Ivory Coast in January.
A thrilling 2-1 victory over the Central African Republic on Thursday, September 7, 2023, at the Kumasi Baba Yara Sports Stadium gave the four-time defending African champions an eleventh consecutive AFCON qualifying.
The Black stars managed to place top of group E with 12 points, with Angola coming second with 9 points.
The Central African Republic and Madagascar occupied the third and fourth place with 7 and 3 points, respectively.
Despite failing to qualify out of the group stage at the last AFCON, Owu is still optimistic that the Black Stars can end their 42-year trophy drought in Ivory Coast next January.
Speaking to Onua FM he said: “This Ghana team can win the AFCON with the right support and motivation from Ghanaians.”
The draw for the tournament will be held on Thursday, October 12, 2023 in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
