The former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Daniel Bugri Naabu, has been accused of fabricating allegations against one of the police officers involved in the alleged scheme to depose the Inspector General of Police.
Supt. George Asare asserted that some of the remarks attributed to him were made up by Bugri Naabu and not actually made by him during his appearance before the committee looking into the leaked tape on Monday.
He asserted that he had gone to Mr. Naabu’s office at the latter’s invitation after realizing that the administration was looking for a new IGP and asking for recommendations.
Additionally, the officer claimed that he had recommended three people to Mr. Naabu, namely Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah and COP Alex Mensah.
“I accepted Mr. Naabu’s offer to visit his office after learning that the government was looking for a new IGP and receiving his request for recommendations.
COP Alex Mensah, Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, and Christian Tetteh Yuhuno were three of the people I suggested, according to Supt. Asare.
The officer who organized the meeting between Mr. Naabu and COP Alex Mensah is Supt. Asare.
One of the voices on the covert tape that said IGP Dampare’s behavior might result in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) losing the 2024 election was his.
He also defended his belief that the former NPP Northern Regional Chairman had the power to affect the choice of who would lead the police department.
Supt. George Asare claimed that Daniel Bugri Naabu had disclosed to him that it was he who had advised President Akufo-Addo that he appoint Dr. George Akufo-Dampare to the position of IGP.
He disclosed this to the Parliamentary Committee on Monday, September 4, 2023
