According to certain NDC MPs, Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta’s incapacity to manipulate numbers to fit a particular narrative is the reason why the schedule for the mid-year budget review presentation is constantly changing.
As part of its agreement with Ghana, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has given the Bank of Ghana a resident supervisor.
Originally slated for Thursday, July 20, the mid-year budget review was moved up to today, Tuesday, July 25. Now, it will take place on Monday, July 31.
The constant changing of the date, according to certain NDC MPs is unacceptable.
Abdnego Bandim, the NDC representative for Bunkprugu, claimed that the government is aiming to mislead Ghanaians by delaying the introduction of the budget.
“They are providing us with unsupportable justifications. Because their calculations are incorrect, they are giving us different dates. We think that the economy is unhealthy and in a bad place.
Because anything is wrong, they must come and massage figures. Therefore, that explains why they continually changing the dates for the presentation of the mid-year budget review.
Additionally, the Finance Minister does not take Ghanaians seriously, according to NDC MP Richard Kwame Sefe for Anlo.
He claims that this is the cause of the frequent rescheduling.
They are perplexed. We all agreed when they chose the first date, which is today (July 27), that they should choose today (Tuesday), because of other concurrent, equally important engagements. We later learned that it would be completed on Thursday, so they moved it back to today (Tuesday), and they have since moved it to July 31.
Prior to his presentation on Monday, Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta will meet with lawmakers on Friday, according to Speaker of the House Alban Bagbin. But he made no mention of what will happen at this conference.
