The presiding judge in the ambulance purchase trial has been asked to disqualify herself, according to a motion filed by lawyers for former deputy finance minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.
Additionally, Dr. Ato Forson requested the return of his passport, which had been impounded in accordance with the terms of his bail.
Judge Afia Serwaa Asare, who presided over the hearing on Thursday, July 13, observed that Richard Jakpa, the third defendant in the case, had asked the Chief Justice to remove her from office due to her partiality.
She therefore adjourned the trial to July 27 by which time a determination would have been made by Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
Ato Forson and two others are standing trial for causing financial loss to the state in the purchase of some 200 ambulances for €2.37million.
The others are a businessman, Richard Jakpa and a former Chief Director of the Ministry of Health Sylvester Anemana.
