The 2023 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards’ Best Rap Performance winner, rapper Amerado, has acknowledged that it has put some pressure on him.
He claimed in an interview with Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM that he is now thinking about how to keep up the momentum that would assure his continued success in the field.
He admitted to the show’s host, Doreen Avio, that the publicity he garnered from his lyrical duels with Lyrical Joe helped him win, and he said, “There are people hoping that I could repeat what I did.”
Amerado declared, “I attend school, but I make an effort.” In addition, he adds, he worries, “How do I maintain this post, how do I stay relevant and consistent?”
Amerado expressed his desire to create music that would not only benefit others but bringing him some financial gain.
The rapper stated, “I believe that in 20 years, I should have something to show for it…that is the dream.”
At the ceremony held in May, Amerado’s song “Obia Boa” took home the 2023 VFMA Best Rap Performance honor.
He triumphed over Medikal, Strongman, Lyrical Joe, and Teephlow to capture the coveted prize.
Amerado admitted on Daybreak Hitz that he wasn’t overly optimistic about winning the prize because he had previously lost the category in which he had been nominated.
“Since I’ve always coveted this plaque, I felt like I was dreaming when I won. I prayed, “Thank you, God; third time’s the charm.” When I won, my mother immediately contacted me, he continued.
