The National Communication Authority (NCA) is going to cut off more than 7.4 million SIM cards that have not been connected to the owner’s Ghana Card as of late at midnight.
This number, according to the Chamber of Telecommunications, comprises SIM Cards that have only undergone the first step of registration and those that have never been connected to the Ghana Card.
According to the Chamber, the 7.4 million will be unable to send or receive SMS messages or conduct any type of financial transaction.
According to Dr. Ken Ashigbey, chief executive officer of the Chamber of Telecommunications, anyone with valid claims can “reach out to the NCA… and the NCA will then look into your case and then ask the telcos to whitelist your number so that your number will not be blocked.”
He guarantees, however, that the Bank of Ghana will secure all funds in the mobile money wallets associated with these numbers so that the owners may later claim them.
In the meantime, according to the National Identification Authority (NIA), more than 17 million Ghanaians have successfully been registered, with an additional 2 million expected to be added over the next three months, subject to the release of money for its operations.
Meanwhile, the National Identification Authority (NIA) reports that it has successfully registered more than 17 million Ghanaians, with an aim of collecting an additional 2 million within the next three months, pending the receipt of money for its activities.
Speaking to the media in the midst a sense of urgency among citizens attempting to obtain their Ghana cards before today’s deadline, NIA Chief Executive Prof Ken Attafuah stated that once sufficient funding is provided, the Authority aims to complete the registration process for all Ghanaians aged 15 and above within a maximum of three months.
