The loss of 17 parliamentarians during the most recent National Democratic Congress primaries was regrettable, according to the majority leader in parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.
A strong parliament must be built, according to Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, and the loss of experienced MPs is sad.
Dr. Kwabena Donkor, a former minister of power and MP for Pru East, Alhaji A.B.A. Fuseini, MP for Sagnarigu, Mrs. Della Sowah, Kpando, Edward Bawa, Bongo, and Wisdom Gidisu, Krachi East, are among the lawmakers that were unsuccessful in getting re-elected.
Others include Albert Alasoka, Garu, Alex Adomako, Sekyere Afram Plains, Kobena Mensah Woyome, South Tongu, Angela Alorwu-Tay, Afadzato South, and Abeiku Crentsil, Ekumfi.
The remaining candidates were Sophia Ackuaku, Domeabra-Obom, who switched to compete in Ayawaso Central, Thomas Adda Dalu, Chiana-Paga, Kwakye Ackah, Amenfi Central, Augustine Tawiah, Navrongo Central, Christian Otuteye, Sege, and Sampson Chiragia, Navrongo Central.
The Suame MP encouraged the NDC and NPP to revise their party constitutions to prevent such occurrences in his opening remarks on Tuesday.
“Mr. Speaker, the NDC had its presidential and legislative primaries over the break. My earnest wish was that they would all have succeeded. Because I really believe that experience is a necessary foundation for creating a stronger parliament, specifically a stronger parliament in Ghana.
“Unfortunately, 17 of our coworkers reportedly perished. Quite regrettable. We can speak to the fact that some of them are highly experienced and mature individuals who contribute to the House’s deliberations, therefore it is terrible that we have lost them.
